Typed mimeograph caption taped onto verso reads: "Haave Hands Full. New York: Policemen have their hands full--literally--as they try to cut chaining around a picket during a civil rights demonstration at outside City Hall...Nine demonstrators--there were 130 assembled--wrapped a long chain around themselves and then tried to padlock themselves to a pillar. Three policement were injured duriing a ciolent clash with the pickets."

Typed mimeograph description on verso reads: "Conventionally Speaking (third of nine). The candidate's 'hat in the ring' was more than just a phrase for the New York delegation that lined up these 'Ike' hats at the GOP Convention in Chicago, July 1952. Somebody managed to slip in one lone eyeshade boosting Senator Robert A. Taft." Image featured rows of folding chairs, a straw "Ike" hat place on each seat; a "Taft" eyeshade has placed over the top of one of the straw hats.
