Rolph, John Alexander

 Person

biographical statement

The Scorpion Press was founded in London in 1958 by Jack Hobbs and John Rolph, former representatives of commercial publishing firms. The two men sought to give young poets a better market for their work by publishing them in the same professional manner as any other book. The first author published was Bernard Kops. Until 1969, when their last title appeared, Rolph and Hobbs brought out new work by Doris Lessing, Jack Lindsay, Christopher Logue, George MacBeth, Henry Miller, Robert Nye, Peter Porter, and others.
