Biography

Sir Thomas Lawrence PRA FRS was a leading English portrait painter and the fourth president of the Royal Academy. Lawrence was a child prodigy. He was born in Bristol and began drawing in Devizes, where his father was an innkeeper at the Bear Hotel in the Market Square.

Scope and Contents This slender volume, similar to a scrapbook, contains two letters written and signed by Trumbull: one to Richard Rush regarding the death of artist Benjamin West, and the other to Sir Thomas Lawrence congratulating him on succeeding West as president of the Royal Academy.
