Head Quarters, Eastern Division, Cherokee Agency, Tenn. Military Order no. 25, conveying the order of President Andrew Jackson for the removal of the Cherokees to the west according to the terms of the Treaty of 1835. Personally signed in ink by General Winfield Scott and countersigned by his chief of staff.

Scope and Contents The first itemĀ· is a letter from Scott to Gov. William Schley of Georgia dated March 6, 1836, in which he reports on the conditions of the first battalion of Georgia mounted men. He says the report is not favorable as the men generally refuse to be mustered into the service of the United States.
