Biography

Commodore Josiah Tattnall was an officer in the United States Navy during the War of 1812, the Second Barbary War and the Mexican–American War. He later served in the Confederate Navy during the American Civil War.

Scope and Contents These letters pertain to the cession of Indian lands to the State of Georgia and from Georgia to the U. S. Government in 1802. At least one of them is addressed to Gov. Josiah Tattnall, Jr. James Jackson was governor of Georgia from 1798 to 1801.
