American soldier and politician. An important leader of the Texas Revolution, Houston served as the first and third president of the Republic of Texas.

Scope and Contents An 1830 letter is addressed to Major General McCombs requesting a survey of the Arkansas River country as an aid to removing the Indians to that territory. It is written from Washington City by Sam Houston.A letter dated August 30, 1838, is written to a Colonel Voss by A. G. Wright requesting troops to protect the border from both the Mexicans and the Indians. Wright sends copies of two letters written by Houston to support his request and his claim for the need of protection....
