Biography

Victor Levasseur was a French cartographer widely known for his distinctive decorative style. He produced numerous maps more admired for the artistic content of the scenes and data surrounding the map than for the detail of the map.

Scope and Contents

Disbound partially hand-colored copper engraving map. Region du Nord-Est No 31. Map features the Haute-Marne region (including the Champagne wine district). Illustrated with cameos of Diderot and Etienne, wild animals, foods and other products of the region. Map has lovely decorated borders that relate to the region, including statistical information, regional products, famous local people, and places of interest
