biographical statement

Born in Georgia, 11 Oct 1846, served as a private in the 17th AL CSA during the Civil War. He became a committed Socialist. In 1905 he was a leader of the Green Corn movement in Oklahoma. He was the 1910 Socialist candidate for Governor of Oklahoma. He was a recurring representative of Oklahoma to the Socialist National Conventions. In 1916, he wrote some musical pieces. In 1918, he was convicted in Oklahoma City for a violation of the Espionage Act and sent to Leavenworth, KS as prisoner #13340. He was released in June 1921. He died on 13 February 1926.
