Biography

Entertainer and singer known as "The Incomparable Hildegarde". She was extremely popular in the 1930s and 1940s, and among her admirers were the King of Sweden, the Duke of Windsor, and later Liberace, who took inspiration from her theatrical and sophisticated style. She was well-known for throwing single-stemmed roses to men in the audience as she sang and flirted with them as part of her act.
