biographical statement

Tulsa area businessman and collector who owned and operated Shleppey Outdoor Advertising. Later he owned a bookstore in Seattle. He was a lifelong acquirer of things, beginning when he was a child before 1920. His extensive collection of books, artifacts, and papers was bequeathed to the University of Tulsa by the Shleppey family following his death in September 1975.

Hallmark Valentine card. Illustrated like a jungle. A cutout on the front shows the Hawaiian woman inside the card. Opening the card causes the woman to wiggle her hips. Interior reads "And you can't WIGGLE out of it!" "For John XO" is handwritten.
