Biography

Painter, portraitist, designer of stained glass, illustrator. Born in Louisville, Kentucky. Traveled to Europe and enlisted in 1917, where he did scientific drawings at a hospital. Developed multiple sclerosis, ending his career as an artist. Cared for by his brother Bruno Alberts for the rest of his life.

Find a Grave notes that his headstone lists his middle name as "Bernard" even though he is credited in his many paintings and illustrations as "Bernhard". He is also sometimes listed as J. Bernhard Alberts, Jr.
