David Plante papers: A substantial collection of circulars, memoranda, newsletters and similar material from the Writers Action Group sent to David Plante, a leading member of this campaigning group. Mostly dated between 1972 and 1979, comprising approximately 180 pages, duplicated typescript, mainly foolscap, some bearing autograph notes by other members of the Group, including Brigid Brophy and Maureen Duffy, and relating mainly, but not exclusively, to the Public Lending Right (PLR) and the Authors' Lending and Copyright Society (ALCS). The Writers Action Group is best remembered for its campaign to establish the PLR and the formation of the ALCS in 1977 for writers to receive remuneration for the lending of their works by libraries.
