Scope and Contents
Randy Krehbiel, "Race Riot Commission Sets Goals," in Tulsa World, June 30, 2000, Final Home Edition, Metro, p. 13, printed from http://infoweb3.newsbank.com. The article reports on recent scheduling decisions made by the Tulsa Race Riot Commission as they processed and evaluated the information they had gathered, including the completion of tits consultants's reports by October 25, which included a 275 report edited by and introduction by Duke historian John Hope Franklin and Tulsa native historian Scott Ellsworth, and a summary and shorter report by Commissioner Bob Blackburn, Director of the Oklahoma Historical Society, and Danney Goble, a historian at the University of Oklahoma. Another decision including shelving the project to excavate the Oakland cemetery, given doubts about mass burials there and the political pressure that uinsuccessful excavations would cause for the Commission. Similarly, radar searches in Newblock Park, which many witnesses had identified as a destination for bodies, had also been unsuccessful.
