Diary, 1917 - 1918
Scope and Contents
Handwritten entries are written variously in lead pencil, brown ink, and purple pencil. The daily entries begin on page 2 (being a brief chronological description of his enlistment, training and transport, August - November 1917) but resume on page 137 (December 1917) and continue from the back of the diary to the front. There are multiple dated entries per page.
Punctuation is irregular or non-existent. Beginnings of sentences are generally not capitalized; however, random words within sentences may be capitalized. Spelling is often phonetical.
The following transcription has been provided for the information contained within its contents; therefore, misspelled words and place names have been corrected wherever possible, although Gruenberg's sentence structure has been retained.
See Digital Object Link below for full transcription.
