Scope and Contents

Synopsis of A Ring of Roses. Universal City: Universal Studios, June 23, I 969. Typed synopsis in stapled sheets. Quarto. 32 pp. A synopsis by Sally S. Acker of John Blackburn's novel A Ring Of Roses.

Listed under the category of 'Suspense - Horror' the synopsis begins: 'He glances at the luminous dial on his treasured wrist watch. Twenty-five to two. It is the sixth stop since they left Berlin. BILLY FENWICK, lying stiffly awake in his upper berth, knows he should not be afraid. He is nine years old, and even his brother, five-year old ROBIN, is not frightened. Maybe it's just because Robin is too young to know why the blinds are pulled down so tightly, whereas Billy can clearly picture the cold desert outside with its coils of rusting barbed wire and the tallow-faced people who are standing there watching the train. He wishes the train would start before one of them raises his hand, opens the window, and climbs in. Two of them are there now, he is sure, and sweat runs down his forehead as he listens ... footsteps coming across the track ... voices speaking in low, gutteral tones ... a tapping noise just below the window .. .' To the best of our knowledge, this remains unproduced.
