Something Evil, 1971-01-25
Scope and Contents
Memo regrading Something Evil. Universal City: Universal City Studios, January 25, 1971. A stapled two-page memo from Coles Trapnell to George J. Santoro on the subject of Something Evil by Robert Clouse. The memo states: 'An advertising exec with his wife and two children moves into an old farmhouse in the country north of Pennsylvania. The wife, Marjorie, meddles with witchcraft and demonology and unlooses the powers of darkness to bring down doom and destruction on herself and her baby daughter. The theme is fine for a horror picture, and :individual scenes are satisfactorily chilling and blood-curdling ... AMMIE COME HOME (produced as a television feature under the title THE HOUSE THAT WOULDN'T DIE) dealt in similar ghostly sights and sounds but, after being properly mystified, we learned what they were all about, what their supernatural significance was. SOMETHING EVIL leaves us in the dark and keeps us floundering.
