This letter was apparently forwarded on to Grace by Lisle after he made some handwritten remarks about who Bertha was. Grace herself wrote on the back of the last page: "Why didn't you leave the heading at the letter on; perhaps I would have written to the young lady thanking her for being so good to you," in reference to the fact that the top of the first page was torn off, obscuring any return address and date.
