Summary

This photograph depicts 2 tethered British Drachen (or Kite) type observation balloons ascending. Copied from German designs and filled with hydrogen, these were used to observe the front. Photos taken by William Rider-Rider, the official photographer for the Canadian War Records Office between June 1917 and December 1918.
