Private John Flynn's personal account of campaigns in which he participated while serving in Company H, US Dragoons, out of Fort Leavenworth. Journal begins: "Enlisted on the 11th December 1839, remained 10 days at Governors Island, New York Harbour, then sent to Carlisle, Pa., barracks, a drilling depot, or school of practise as it's called...."

Private Flynn was a soldier with Company H of the U.S. Dragoons out of Fort Leavenworth, led by Captain Nathan Boone, the youngest son of Daniel Boone.
