Original wireless signal log of the HMS Cossack (23-24 October) and HMS Crusader for the period 24 Oct 1914 to 2 Nov 1914, describing the naval flank action off the Belgian coast.

The HMS Crusader was a destroyer on Dover patrol the first few months of the war and was part of the 6th or Dover Destroyer Flotilla consisting of destroyers, light cruisers, submarines, trawlers, and miscellaneous other auxiliary patrol vessels under the command of Admiral Hood.

The 19 days of recorded data (including receiving ship, time of dispatch, tune, remarks, and message sent) detail the communications sent and received when Admiral Hood led his ships in a huge bombardment of the German troops while their gun batteries were sweeping through Belgium. Admiral Hood used the Crusader as his flag vessel during an important action which at first checked and then broke the German advance until such time as the Germans were able to bring up heavier artillery, which forced Admiral Hood's ships on the defensive.
