Biographical / Historical

John Roger Walls Shleppey (1901-1975) was a Tulsa area businessman and collector who owned and operated Shleppey Outdoor Advertising. Later he owned a bookstore in Seattle. He was a lifelong acquirer of things, beginning when he was a child before 1920. His extensive collection of books, artifacts, and papers was bequeathed to the University by the Shleppey family following his death in September 1975. Because of the large amount of material, this collection has been divided into specific series: library; Outdoor Advertising Company archive; collection of the history of Native American peoples; John W. Shleppey artifacts; family papers; and miscellaneous collections
