Scope and Contents
This collection of letters and documents is related to Indian affairs in North America during and just after the Revolutionary War. Included are letters to and from Sir John Johnson, General in the British Army. There are accounts of sundries issued to Indian scouts (Montreal, May, 1778) and others.

Biographical / Historical
Sir Frederick Haldimand, a Swiss soldier, was British governor and commander in chief in Canada from 1778 to 1784. He assisted many American colonists who remained loyal to Britain to settle in Canada. He was born in Neuchatel, Switzerland, and entered the British Army in 1756.
Sir John Johnson, 2nd Baronet of New York was a Loyalist leader during the American Revolution, British Loyalist/provincial military officer, a politician in Canada and a wealthy landowner. He was the son of Sir William Johnson, 1st Baronet, who was the British Superintendent of Indian Affairs for the northern colonies, based in New York province.

These letters are on excellent paper and the ink has not faded, but in some instances, the pages have come apart where they have been folded.
