Civil War Papers, 1861-1865
Scope and Contents
Among these papers, there is a photostatic copy of a communication from Gen. D. H. Cooper to Maj. S. P. Wilson, dated December 5, 1862, Scullyville. Some of the military matters deal with the "scattered Creeks" and Colonel Watie (Stand Watie?). Also listed are two letters dated June, 1863, between John J. Floyd, Judge of the Supreme Court of Georgia, and Thomas Jones, attorney for the mother of Tyre Harris, a conscript under eighteen who was being held captive against the law. Another item of interest is the autobiography of sixteen year old Sydney L. Daily detailing his experiences during enlistment and service.
There are a number of letters (photocopies) from Lt. J. W. Strong, Camp Strong, Muscatine, Iowa, and Helena, Arkansas, all to his wife.
