Eliot Bliss diaries, 1959-1980

Scope and Contents

The Eliot Bliss diaries, housed in five legal-sized document boxes, consist of 19 volumes of daily diaries dating from January 1959 to December 1960, and January 1963 to August 1980. Additional notes, correspondence, poems, photographs, and sales receipts are laid into many of the diaries, all of which have been noted in the inventory. Please refer to "Notes on my Diaries", written by Bliss.

Elizabeth Coles Taylor papers, 1946-1973

Scope and Contents The novels, the first and largest section, are arranged in chronological order by date of publication and include manuscripts, some typescripts, and, in three cases, corrected proof copies. The manuscript versions are, for the most part, the clean copies from which Mrs. Taylor's typist worked and, therefore, reflect the finished product more than the work in progress, though they do contain some additions, deletions, and emendations. Leslie Poles Hartley correspondence, 1952-1967

Consists of 72 autograph letters and 5 Christmas cards (most accompanied by their envelopes) to friends and colleagues including Ian Hamilton, H. A. Rappaport, Alan Ross, and Roger Senhouse; also included is a cablegram to Hartley from Harvey Curtis Webster. The collection also holds editions of Hartley's books, books to which he contributed, and secondary critical appraisals, and an extensive run of Weekend Review, a journal to which Hartley made regular contributions.

Included in the collection is a letter from Samuel Epstein to Margaret Drabble, a letter from Margaret Drabble to Gordon Taylor (English Department, University of Tulsa) with an attached note from Taylor to Sid Huttner (Curator, Special Collections, University of Tulsa).

Consists of over 5700 pieces of correspondence to Scott along with carbon file copies of approximately 6000 letters written by him; manuscripts including Staying On and My Appointment with the Muse; commissioned reader's reports and book reviews; personal items including military records and photographs of Paul Scott and Paul Scott with family and/or colleagues.

Scott was a British novelist and visiting University of Tulsa visiting professor in 1977.
