Content Description Two autograph volumes of a diary kept by Alfred Dexter Morgan during his service with the 17th Illinois Cavalry Volunteers in 1864 and 1865. Morgan and his company saw duty primarily in Missouri, but was also stationed in Kansas at the end of the war. Missouri experienced some of the most bitter conflict due to sectionalism and protracted guerrilla warfare, and Morgan's diary speaks of the events occuring at that time.
