Biography
Peter Perkins Pitchlynn, of the Hat-choo-tuck-nee clan, was a Choctaw chief of Choctaw and Anglo-American ancestry. He was principal chief of the Choctaw Republic from 1864-1866 and surrendered to the Union on behalf of the nation at the end of the Civil War.

The papers pertain to Wyandotte tribal matters in Ohio, Kansas, Indian etc. A large portions pertains to claims against the United States. There are also papers related to business matters of Lucy and John Armstrong. Later papers are concerned with the division of the Methodist Church, North and South. Scope and Contents
Lawyer and official Choctaw delegate in Washington. Personal and official correspondence and documents relating to Choctaw matters, to the Dancing Rabbit Treaty, Choctaw Academy, the position of the tribe in the Civil War, claims against the Federal Government for payment for lands of the tribe, removal of the tribe to Indian Territory, and family matters. Some of the letters are in Choctaw.
