Biography

Clarence Love was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on January 25, 1908. He formed his first six-piece band that played at school dances in 1922. In 1926, he joined the Muscicians' Protective Union in Kansas City and formed a band influenced by Canadian-American bandleader and violinist Guy Lombardo. During World War II, Love led the Darlings of Rhythm, an all-girl band. In Tulsa, Oklahoma, Love opened his own club, The Love Lounge, in 1948, which he owned and operated until 1957. Love died on January 18, 1998 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
