Biography

Army officer best known for partnership in the Lewis and Clark expedition. In 1794, he was Lieutenant in the 4th sub-legion of the Legion of the U.S. under "Mad Anthony" Wayne.

Scope and Contents

A handwritten note, signed, from Clark, requesting a pint of whiskey for the Chickasaw Indians. Greenville [Ohio], 30 May 1794. Small hole in center, text unaffected. Some minor contemporary ink smudges. Also signed by John Mills, Legion's adjutant approving the request to the adjutant quartermaster. On verso, a note from James Donelson releasing the whisky.
