Biography

Former Soviet citizen who was trained as a Holocaust executioner to work in Polish ghettoes, he eventually moved to work as a guard at the Treblinka extermination camp. Fled to the United States and admitted under a DPA visa in 1949, he became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1970. He was discovered in 1977 and denaturalized by trial. Originally the judge allowed him to keep his citizenship status, but the Supreme Court overturned the decision. He was extradited to the USSR, sentenced to death for treason against his nation and participation in the Holocaust, and his execution was announced in July 1987.
