His family settled in Trenton, Missouri and he later attended Grand River College (Missouri) and eventually became a practicing physician. Reeder resided in several locations, including Nebraska, Arizona Territory, Texas, Oklahoma and Indian Territories. He was in the Tulsa area by 1893, making him one of Tulsa's early settlers.

Within these diaries, Dr. Reeder keeps an account of his travels, business dealings, patients and friends, as well as current events and personal recollections. Reeder made special note of the weather each day.
