Council Oak, Undated
Scope and Contents
During the Creek removal In 1836, the Lochapokas arived in the vicinity of Tulsa, and chose an oak tree on top of a hill that overlooked the Arkansas River as the site of their council ground. Lighting a new ceremonial fire using coals brought from their old site, they established a council ground for business, ceremonies, feasts and games. This site remained in use until 1896. This tree still stands in a small park at the corner of 18th and Cheyenne. This slide shows that tree.
