Signed executive order given by Georgia Governor, G.R. Gilmer. "We, reposing especial trust and confidence in your patrtiotism, valor, conduct and fidelity, do by these presents constitute and appoint you, 1st Lieutenant of a company of volunteers raised from the 24th Regiment by the orders of the Commander-in-Chief, under a requisition from the authority of the President of the United States, to serve for three months, in removing the Cherokee Indians, and defending the people of the States from Indian hostilities...."
