Calder-Marshall, Arthur to "My dearest little wife" [Alice Calder-Marshall], 1914-08-09
Scope and Contents
Photocopy of the original letter, on Hotel Astoria St. Petersburg stationery. It is unclear why these letters are included with the collection, and may have been a separate research project that Julia Briggs was working on.
"My dearest little Wife, It seems just ever so long since I had any news of you and then is still no known, when [?] shall get any news I am going on [?], to you and to the office but it all seems quite useless as so far as I know no letters come through at any rate I know that since Russia declared war on August 1st we have not had any letters from England and no one else has either. If the post office [is?] holding them up on purpose they must be getting an awful collection and I should say would find it quite impossible in the end to deal with them and would have to burn them in self defence..."
