"My own dearest Wife, I have called this Friday and I think it is Friday but I don't know the date however that doesn't matter. I have a few hours here before going on to Stockholm so I am sending you a few lines to let you know how the journey has gone. I reached Newcastle about eleven o'clock to find that the boat did not sail until 8.30 on Tuesday morning so I slept in the Station Hotel. [This?] morning I was down at the [?] by 8.0 but did not get on board until 11.0!! We had lunch at 2.0 [...] after lunch that we should [?] at in mooring in the rain until the next morning because the Captain had been [?] for having disobeyed the past regulations and [?] without a pilot..."
