"My dearest little Wife, We are living on rumors at present and know not what to believe. There are however [several?] outstanding facts. First Germany has declared war on Germany, second that everyone is very excited. Thirdly that England unless she wants to ruin us must join with Russia. Now as to rumors. We hear that without declaring war she, Germany has broken Belgium's neutrality, actually made war against France, and attacked British Shipping. Further that Belgium has depending on England against Germanys ultimatum. Finally that England has declared war on Germany and sent off her fleet to take immediate action against the Germans. I hope this last is true. If it is true then is no question as to the result. Russia France and England will win for it is Germany and Austria against the world..."
