"My own darling Wife, It's 5:30 now on Saturday evening and I am taking advantage of a few minutes lull to write to you. I have to write by candle light as the current is only on from six to [?] so as to save fuel. We are saving everything just now and despite it all the quantity available gets less and less and the price higher and higher. What do you think of butter at thirty shillings a pound and sugar at sixteen shillings..."
