Scope and Contents

"Dear "E. Nesbit" I expect you are hardened to admiring letters from admiring strangers - so its[sic] only to please myself that I'm writing - it is that, of course - and very egoistic of me - but I'm in bed with the usual weary breakdown - and the usual play trying to get itself finished - and also as usual, I fly to your beloved childrens[sic] books for rest and enjoyment. You will laugh - I've never possessed them (I can't get over my upbringing, which taught me that to buy books was wicked extravagance) until this morning when I've just sent out recklessly for you all at once - for a treat!..."
