"My dear (E.N.'s special sign) I am most sorry to think of your loss and what it means. It recalls to me the quiet charm of that dear old lady as I saw her at your house some years ago. She left on me the impression then of a sweet and beautiful character, and I have always felt sad at hearing that her increasing infirmities did not make the last years of her old age happy ones..."
