Tulsa, Oklahoma April 30, 1917. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: This is to certify that J. Clark Chatfield has been in my personal employ for the past year as a reporter. During this term of employment he has shown advancing ability. I have found him to be efficient, honorable and trustworthy, and earnest in his ambitions. I understand he is desirous to join the officer’s training camp for this district. His position with this newspaper will not be jeopardized in such an event. {signed} Vernon L. Smith, Ed.
