"Dear Sir, I am in receipt of your chque for royal ties [sic] on E. Nesbit. May I point out that you have charged me twice for the compiling of an index. The advance cheque which I received from you in January this year was not for £50 as stated, but for £45.6.9 - the charge for doing the index having already been deducted. According to the statement received this morning, the sum of £4.13.3 has again been deducted. I shall be glad if you will kindly rectify this error. I am rather surprised to see that the statement contains no mention of any copies sold to the colonies or other countries abroad at a reduced rate..."
