"Sir, I would be grateful if you could give the hospitality of your pages to a comment that I think I might reasonably be allowed to makeon[sic] Mr. Richard Sunne's review of my book, "E. Nesbit". A great critic laid down the rule that we cannot blame a man for not succeeding in what he never attempted to do - a rule which Mr. Sunne wholly ignored when he regretted, in impressive print, that I had failed to portray E. Nesbit as a great tragic figure..."
