Moore, Doris Langley - [Newspaper announcement], with separate letter on the verso, 1933-01-20
Scope and Contents
Transcribed copy from the original letter.
Verso contains a letter from Moore to the editor of The Daily Telegraph commenting on Rebecca West's review of Moore's biography of Edith Nesbit.
"Private Mrs. Doris Langley Moore will be very much obliged to the Editor of the Daily Telegraph if he will find room for the enclosed letter in his correspondence column. Her reason for wishing it to appear is that she considers Miss Rebecca West's comment as being likely to mislead readers and, possibly, other reviewers..."
"Sir, Miss Rebecca West's review of my newly-published biography of E. Nesbit ends with this comment :- "One wishes Miss Langley Moore had told us that all the persons involved had given consent to its publication, for without that assurance one must read with an uneasy conscience." Perhaps if Miss West had examined the "Acknowledgments" with which the book is prefaced, her conscience would not have so gratuitously imagined a stain on mine; for I think I have made it quite clear that the persons involved were fully and freely consulted..."
