"Dear Mr. Housman, Thank you very much for your letter and your kind comments on my book. In answer to your implied query, I gave to Mrs. Bland's second husband, and to all four children of the family, an opportunity of reading the work in proof, and it was published with their sanction. I am told that the book, which is published this Thursday, errs on the side of "tameness", but as you can imagine, I had to go very warily, since so many friends and descendants are concerned..."
