"Dear Mr Benn, Thank you for your letter and your good wishes. I am still confined to my bed, for my operation was for acute appendicitis. I must have forgotten to mention it ! (1) I really don't think I have time to take up Harold Cox's opinion about the passage you mention, because if I remember rightly he delayed very long in answering the only letter I ever wrote him, and was by no means disposed to be helpful. The reference, I think, was scarcely libellous in as much as it was certainly true (I had it from Mr Bernard Shaw and two other witnesses of the incident, one of whom is a barrister)..."
