"Dear Mrs Philips, Thank you very much for your kind letter. I reply by dictation from my Nursing Home bed to assure you that I will do my best to bring the book into line with your wishes. In answer to your remarks:- (1) I am sorry nobody ever told me before that your father was not in favour of your mother's dancing and playing parties, and that he was, as you say "not really a generous man in money matters"; for, as it is suggested rather than stated in my book that they were congenial in this respect, it will be a difficult matter to alert..."
