"Dear Mr. Benn, Thank you very much for your kind letter received this morning. I am disappointed in the American prospect only on your behalf, for, as I think I told you, my hopes were not very sanguine in this direction. I take it very kindly that you express your hopes of inducing Messrs. Coward McCann to change their minds. Steeped in ignorance of publishing affairs as I am, it seems to me that perhaps if the book were a signal success in England, they might ultimately publish over there..."
