"My Lord, I have the honour to inform you that I am writing a biography of the late E. Nesbit (Mrs. Hubert Bland) for Messrs. Ernest Benn, the present publishers of her books for children. Letters dated between 1883 and 1890 have come into my hands in which she mentions you as visiting her house, and speaks with admiration of your talents. It has occurred to me that you might be kind enough to furnish me with some record of the manner in which you met the Blands..."
