"Dear Sir, I have the honour to inform you that I am writing a biography of "E.Nesbit"[sic] for Messrs Ernest Benn, the present publishers of her works for children. The list of her published poetical works includes a book of Christmas verse, in which both Mr Richard Le Gallienne and yourself collaborated. It has occurred to me, therefore, that you were probably acquainted personally with "E.Nesbit" at this time, and I need hardly say how interesting it would be to myself and my readers to have any reminiscences..."
