Moore, Doris Langley to George Bernard Shaw, 1931-05-11
Scope and Contents
Transcribed copy of the original letter.
"Dear Sir, I find it very hard to be denied the most desirable material that I am ever likely - or unlikely - to get for my Life of E. Nesbit, on the grounds that I shall probably not be able to steer between the Scylla of black paint and the Charybdis of whitewash. I am more disappointed than I can say. To be aware that Nesbit knew you in the most interesting period of her life, and yet to be obliged to write nothing but hearsay about such a friendship is the torment of Tantalus - and I have done nothing such as he did to deserve it. Surely I haven't hinted either at indecent revelations or over-decent concealments?..."
