"Dear Madam, I have the honour to inform you that I am working on a biography of "E. Nesbit," which has been commissioned by Messrs. Ernest Benn, the present publishers of nearly all her works. Mrs. Phillips and Doctor John Bland assure me that you will be able to give me reminiscences of her early life which will be of the greatest value to the book, and they appear to think that you will be kind enough to grant me an interview..."
